More New Green Homes In California

Currently, there’s LEED for Home and LEED for Neighborhood Development, but if you want a green certified home that takes into account green lifestyle considerations (i.e., access to public transportation), a home certified to National Green Building Standards(NGBS)–such as those slated for development by Pardee Homes in Santa Clarita, California–may be what you’re looking for.

Pardee’s new LivingSmart Homes slated for its Fair Oaks Ranch development will be being built to NGBS Gold standards and inspected at least twice by an accredited green verifier prior to attaining its intended certification. It will include floor plans running 1,846 to 2,432 square feet in size, with prices starting in the low $400,000s.

Among the green features expected to contribute to these homes earning NGBS certification are its proximity to Metrolink, schools, shopping and recreation, as wel as its focus on water-saving conservation and preserving open space.

The NGBS is currently the only residential green rating system approved by the American National Standards Institute. More information on the standard is available online.
