Unique OLED Chandelier Puts New Light Idea Into Dining Rooms

Here comes the OLEDs…and they’ve never looked better, or more suited to everyday life. This month at the International LightFair in Las Vegas, WAC Lighting will be debuting the latest installment in their Responsible Lighting line–SOL, a decorative chandelier utilizing white Organic LED panels as the exclusive light source, as well as OSRAM’s ORBEOS Organic LED panels for nanotechnology smarts.

The super-efficient SOL chandelier incorporates eco-thinking on a life-cycle scale, created in WAC Lighting’s zero-landfill factory without the use of heavy metals or rare earth materials associated with CFLs.  Soft light from the ORBEOS panels means no additional light control from lenses or reflectors is needed (which traditionally results in a 10%-40% loss in efficiency) via layers of carbon-based materials that self-illuminate in various colors when energized.

How much will this lovely bit of Responsible Lighting run you? A price has yet to be announced, but considering the SOL chandelier was designed for the luxury market, we’re guessing it won’t be cheap. Still, it’s nice to see OLEDs making their way into classy and functional home decor.
