GE wants to help spur the adoption of electric vehicles, and toward that end, GE Capital Fleet Services recently broke ground on a customer experience and learning center that will showcase the company’s “comprehensive portfolio of electric vehicle deployment solutions” and help GE commercial customers evaluate electric vehicles and other alternative-fuel options for their fleets.
The new facility, in Eden Prairie, Minn., will feature an education center with classrooms for presentations, training and workshops; interactive displays; a solar carport and charging center that can charge up to 11 vehicles simultaneously; a center and showroom to help customers evaluate vehicles in a variety of configurations; and a private half-mile driving course that will allow customers to test a variety of cars and trucks under different driving conditions.
According to GE Fleet Services, GE’s portfolio of products and services touch every part of electric infrastructure. The center will display this wide-ranging portfolio, including many of GE’s end-to-end deployment solutions, from fleet management services, vehicle telematics tools and WattStation chargers to energy and infrastructure products that power the smart grid and serve local utilities.
The Minnesota center is part of GE’s broader “ecomagination business strategy” to accelerate the development and deployment of cleantech though innovation and R&D investment; GE Capital Fleet Services will run the center in collaboration with other GE businesses and GE energy and transportation experts from around the world.
