Avant GT Electric Concept Being Developed

Altair Engineering, an automotive technology company out of Michigan, announced the development of a new all-electric car concept dubbed the Avant GT in a partnership with Studio X-Gene, a design firm in Taiwan.

Unfortunately, almost no details about the electric vehicle have been released. The Avant GT is clearly a sedan, which could make it a contender against something like the Nissan Leaf, but without range or battery listings, it’s difficult to tell.

The electric car is said to weigh just over 3,500 pounds, the same as the Leaf, due to its aluminum alloy frame. The company says the weight is “significantly” lighter that cars with the same specifications.¬†Perhaps this means a larger lithium-ion battery, potentially giving the Avant GT a range of something like a Model S.

It’s also important to keep in mind that the Avant GT is merely a concept at this point, and even if total powertrain details were announced, that wouldn’t necessarily mean the vehicle would be available to American consumers anytime soon.
