Go Green In Texas, Win A Fancy Electric Car

Texas-based utilities Oncor and CenterPoint Energy, as well as San Diego Gas & Electric in California, have a new partner in getting consumers on board with smart grid tech for the 21st century: Grid 21, a new non-profit organization, which will be teaming up with these utilities on the Biggest Energy Saver Campaign.

This campaign will offer customers of these utilities prizes for working with the smart grid to save cash and carbon emissions, as well prizes for software developers working on developing applications that will give customers the tools to monitor and control their energy use at home. Application developers stand to gain prizes totaling up to $150,000.

Prizes for customers aren’t too shabby either, as the Grand Prize winner for the state of Texas will be driving away in a brand new electric vehicle, while first place winners will take home smart appliances designed to reduce energy use by communicating intelligently with the grid.

The contests will get started later this summer; complete contest rules and registration will appear on the Biggest Energy Saver website beginning in mid-July.
