Solar Powered Catamaran Offers Beach Fun

Meet the Float Solar Catamaran–your portable, affordable (and foldable) beach party away from shore.

The brainchild of designer Jeffrey Greger of San Jose, California, the Float concept is essentially an inflatable raft built like a catamarran, augmented by a platform and powered by a solar canopy. It includes a solar roof for power and a retractable sun shade.

Up to four people can enjoy a day on the water on this unique solar boat, either reclining on its hammock-style seating or on the platform, which houses the Li-ion batteries, motor, and associated electronics.

At the end of the day–thanks to the Float’s collapsible design–the whole thing folds up and away for transport via a roof-mounted case.

The Float Solar Catamarran was designed by Greger in conjunction with Timo Buecker while studying abroad at Hochschule Darmstadt in Germany.
