Big Solar Power Projects: A Photo Gallery

Many of the advances in solar energy seem to be on a relatively small scale, with individual homes, businesses and other organizations installing solar arrays for their individual use. But several intrepid developers have created massive-scale solar plants capable of powering hundreds, if not thousands of households with clean, green, renewable energy.

Large-scale solar plants require a lot of space for effective use of photovoltaic panels, which sometimes makes it difficult to build them in areas where space is at a premium. Still, people are finding new ways to use previously wasted space to make solar power accessible in congested areas or areas that are otherwise difficult to place large numbers of PV panels in.

Today, we’ll be looking at a few solar projects that get to call themselves the largest, from the largest parking canopy solar array, to the largest solar array at an airport, to the massive-scale projects under way in the vast open deserts.
