There’s nothing worse than a dead battery in the middle of winter–or even summer, for that matter. Now there’s a green way to keep your car battery from letting you down: the Solar Power Battery Maintainer from Ring Automotive (which comes to us by way of Green Diary).
Just leave the Battery Maintainer on your dash to charge, or even stuck to your windshield, via the included suction cups. Once it’s gotten its fill of solar energy, you can use this 12 volt, 1.5 watt gadget as back-up in case of emergencies or as a regular top-off to prevent dead car batteries. It attaches to your car’s main battery via mini jumper-cable attachments and features an LED charge indicator to let you know when it’s ready to go. The Solar Battery Maintainer can even stay connected to your car overnight.
Among the many solar gadgets we read about, it makes sense to keep this in the car, especially while camping. There’s nothing like playing tunes out of your car at a remote location–the beach, say, or the woods–only to discover, hours later, than you’ve run your battery down. And even close to civilization, it’s nice to think about having a little solar-powered backup in the trunk, rather than having to hit up a passing good Samaritan for help.
