Bicycle riders don’t have it easy: either a business is lacking bike racks outside for parking, or bikes aren’t allowed inside the business, or there aren’t designated shower and changing areas for those who pedal their way back and forth from work. Australian company Penny Farthings is looking to provide catch-all relief for bicycle riders with the Green Pod, an all-in-one shower and parking area.
“The Green Pod is a little structure that contains wall-mounted parking for ten bikes, along with ten lockers, a shower and a change room,” explains Gizmag. Powered by a 12V DC electrical system that is able to be powered in turn by roof-mounted solar panels, the Green Pod also has a hot water system, an electronic locking system for keeping bikes safe while their riders are tending to affairs, a self-cleaning mechanism, and an included water treatment that processes the used water and discharges it into green areas.
Penny Farthing has installed Green Pod stations throughout Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Adelaide. A second, more expansive version of the Green Pod comes with two showers, two changing rooms, 28 lockers, and room for 28 bicycles.
