Started in 2009, the program suspends the state sales tax normally associated with the purchase of Energy Star qualified new appliances between April 19th and April 25th (up to $1500 per appliance). The idea here is to encourage a buying frenzy of energy efficient appliances, decreasing the state’s carbon footprint while benefiting homeowner’s utility costs. Appliances include washers, dryers, water heaters, ovens, ranges, stoves, air conditioners, furnaces, refrigerators and more.
Local taxing jurisdictions (i.e., counties and cities) may allow the sales tax holiday to apply to its local sales taxes by enacting an ordinance and notifying the Missouri Department of Revenue not less than forty-five calendar days prior to the beginning date of the sales tax holiday.
