Calling itself the Electric Comfort Bicycle, a new product from Hammacher Schlemmer is taking pedal-based transportation back to a traditional style. The electric bicycle has been getting attention around the web lately, for its extended range and large, padded seat.
Nearly everything about the bike has been designed with rider relaxation in mind, including padded-wrapped handlebars, upright riding body design, and 26″ balloon-tires for what is probably a smooth ride over uneven surfaces.
The bike is equipped with a 500 watt electric motor, and detachable, 36 volt battery pack. Together, the system gives owners a range of 30 miles – likely far enough for most leisurely bike rides – and a top-speed of 20 miles per hour, which can be boosted by pedaling.
A twist of the right handle controls the motor’s variable speed, while a push of a thumb-button changes the six different gears. Like many electric bicycles, however, the product comes with a higher price tag than many traditional bikes. The Electric Comfort Bicycle is currently available to order online for just under $3,000.
