Developer Del Webb has brought a whole lot of standard tract homes to the greater Phoenix area. Now, it seems to have seen the light on green building in Arizona–or at least, the market for it. Hot on the heels of other major developments in California, the home-builder has announced that solar and other enhanced energy-efficient features will come standard at two new communities planned for the Phoenix metro area.
These new homes will include a roof-mounted 1.8 kilowatt-capacity solar power system, courtesy of SunPower Corporation. (Solar panels will also be mounted on the roofs of each community’s model pavilion.) Other energy-efficient features include high-efficiency heating and cooling systems (14 SEER HVAC), CFL lighting, enhanced attic insulation, tankless water heaters and low water use toilets and fixtures.
The two planned Del Webb communities — Sun City Festival in Buckeye and Sun City Anthem at Merrill Ranch in Florence – will encompass approximately 11,200 new homes, making these communities the largest in Arizona (and among the largest in the nation) to offer solar standard.
Dell Webb currently offers solar as an option at 10 actively-selling communities — the majority based in Arizona, California and Nevada — and recently opened its first solar community east of the Mississippi in New Jersey earlier this year.
