A Hand Crank Rechargeable Battery Concept

Recently, we covered a concept design that supplies power to your portables (and other devices) via a wind-up, spring-loaded mechanism. But what about all those battery-powered peripherals?

Designers Yeon Kyeong Hwang and Mieong Ho Kang have a people-powered, kinetic energy solution for this type of juice, as well: the Charge Battery concept (which comes to us via Yanko Design).

The Charge Battery fits inside your portable electronic device just like a regular battery. Unlike a regular battery, when juice starts to run low, there’s no need to buy new ones or even seek out the recharger–instead, you can simply take out the battery and wind it up, much like an old-fashioned wristwatch.

This design (which recently garnered a Spark Design & Architecture Award) works essentially like a kinetic charger paired with a rechargeable battery, both of which are housed within the same handy device–very cool.
