Still charging your portables via that tangle of adaptors, sucking coal-fired energy off the grid? With the abundance of off grid chargers now available at a reasonable price, your excuses for doing so are dwindling. The case in point: the iSol Plus portable charger (which comes to us via EnviroGadget).
This compact little charger was designed for easy transportation; at 11.43 cm x 6.35 cm x 1.52 cm(4.5 in x 2.5 in x 0.6 in), it’s not a whole lot bigger than your cell-phone. That means it fits into a side pocket of your purse, briefcase or messenger bag, making it easy to remember to take your portable device charger with you (after all, it won’t do you much good in a pinch if it’s sitting around at home). A diverse array of adaptors connect this charger to any Samsung or Motorola phone, but if that’s not your brand, not to fear: the iSol can also charge any device that takes in juice via USB chord.
We like the fact that this phone has an indicator light that lets you know how much charge it has. We also like that it can be set to three different DC settings to allow for greater flexibility–5.5v, 7.5v and 9.5v. We’re not so crazy about the fact that, like most solar chargers that don’t claim to have superpowers, it takes 10 to 20 hours of sunshine (depending on intensity) to gain a full charge. However, at $34.70, it’s still not a bad deal.
