Inexpensive Arizona Tract Homes Take On Green Features

Once upon a time, green homes were only for those who could afford them. Now, a Phoenix-, Arizona, based builder, Meritage Homes, has announced that it’s offering new homes that are 80% more efficient than conventionally-built homes at no additional cost to the homebuyer.

The homes of the new Lyon’s Gate development (located in Gilbert, AZ) incorporate a solar electric and thermal system; a high performance wall system, spray foam insulation throughout the home, an electronic home energy management system for “smart home” capabilities and savings, as well as weather-sensing irrigation and water management systems that comply with the EPA‘s latest WaterSense Program. These features come standard with every Lyon’s Gate home, which start at under $180,000.

This array of features, taken together, deliver more than 50% additional energy savings over the standard minimum Energy Star qualified home, and up to 80% more energy efficient than a typical existing home. Lyon’s Gate was designed to offer energy-efficient homes at prices competitive with existing homes, making them affordable for many first time and first move-up buyers.

“The opening of our Lyon’s Gate community is a pivotal event that we believe marks a new era in homebuilding, and is a prototype for future communities. It exemplifies our commitment to energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainability and green building practices,” said Steven J. Hilton, chairman and chief executive officer of Meritage Homes, in a statement. “We continually strive to provide our buyers with the highest level of craftsmanship, versatile home designs and energy efficiency. Our goal is to deliver superior value to our buyers without sacrificing style and comfort. We believe these homes achieve that goal at an entirely new level within the industry.”
