New Softer Light LED Lightbulb Sets Us Aglow

What’s that you say? You haven’t read enough about LED bulbs this week and desire to learn about yet another? How about one more: the 12-watt EnduraLED from Philips.

Shown for the first time at the recent LightFair International tradeshow, the 12W EnduraLED delivers the soft white light that most 60 watt incandescent bulb lovers won’t sacrifice. According to Philips, “this LED replacement has the potential to save 32.6 terawatt-hours of electricity in one year, enough to power the lights of 16.7 million U.S. households or 14.4% of the total number of households in the entire US.” What’s more, the EnduraLED would eliminate 5.3 million metric tons of carbon emissions on an annual basis.

Estimated to last up to 25,000 hours, the 12W EnduraLED features an innovative design and remote phosphor technology that allows the bulb to deliver the same shape and soft white light that customers expect from 60 watt incandescents. Though the bulb’s retail price point has not yet been revealed, it should be for sale later this year.
