2014 Honda Accord Hybrid Could Get 49 MPG In The City

Honda has unveiled some information about its forthcoming 2014 Accord Hybrid, set to go on-sale in the United States this coming October. Chief among the new details is word of an estimated, class-leading 49 MPG city fuel economy, though this is not yet officially confirmed by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The 2014 Accord Hybrid, according to Honda, will use the automaker’s new two-motor hybrid powertrain which is shared with its Accord Plug-in sibling that went on sale in January. It includes multi-driving modes, such as an option which uses the lithium-ion battery to run in electric-only mode at lower speeds and in medium to high speed cruising.

There’s also a hybrid drive selection, which blends together the vehicle’s 124-kilowatt electric motor and the all-new 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine to achieve not only the previously mentioned MPG estimate, but also 45 MPG estimated on the highway and 47 MPG estimated combined.

Built of domestic and globally sourced parts, this hybrid will be the first ever assembled in Marysville, Ohio and the second built in the United States. It will have a whole host of features for those inside the cabin, described by Honda as including

Honda’s LaneWatch blind-spot display, an industry-first that debuted on the Accord last fall…Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning, an 8-inch color i-MID display, perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces, cloud-based HondaLink featuring Aha compatibility, seven-speaker audio system with Bluetooth streaming audio, Pandora interface and XM Radio and a multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines.

No pricing was mentioned in Honda’s news blast for the upcoming car. Expect it to price less than the Accord Plug-in Hybrid though, which came it at $39,780 starting.
