The title of "largest solar energy array to date in the state of Washington" goes to Qwest Field and Event Center in Seattle, the home of the Seahawks. The stadium's 3,750 individual thin-film solar panels grace its white, reflective roof, and generate over 830,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year -- enough to power up 95 Seattle homes for a full year. These thin-film solar panels were designed to capture both direct and reflected sunlight across a 360 degree cylindrical surface, making them an ideal fit for the venue's curved roof. The solar power system covers a little over 2.5 acres, or about 80 percent of the surface. This installation went in back in 2011, and the film-film modules used in the project were manufactured by the now-defunct Solyndra of California. While the company has since folded, their panels are still helping to keep the lights on during Seahawks games and big name concerts alike.
