For many of us, the summer sun is a welcome respite from the dark days of winter. But with that sun comes heat, creating a conundrum for green building designers. On one hand, plenty of windows offer access to natural daylighting throughout a building, cutting down on the amount of electricity it consumes. But when summer rolls around, all those windows can quickly turn a building into a pressure cooker, eating up more juice in the form of AC bills.
