We have always been firm believers in the concept that if someone doesn’t understand something, give them an example. Reliant, an electricity and energy services company based in Texas, has done one better. The company, which claims more than 1.5 million subscribers, is giving way 10,000 home energy monitors.
Home energy monitors are devices that allow customers to see vital information about their home’s energy usage. Everything from the amount of electricity to the amount of heat consumed can be tracked on daily, weekly or monthly intervals. The best part is, the devices also relate the energy used directly to cost spent, so consumers can ultimately learn how to regulate their energy use for cost savings.
More than 3,500 Reliant customers have already received the free in-home display and the company is giving away 6,500 additional monitors to help customers make smarter energy decisions based on real-time information about their electricity use and cost. The Reliant e-Sense Home Energy Monitor lets customers view the amount of electricity they are using, with data updated as fast as every 10 seconds.
“It takes the guesswork out of managing electricity use,” Reliant Vice President of Customer Care Bill Clayton said in a statement. “Our customers have information on how much electricity they are using and what it’s costing them before the bill hits their mailbox. We are delivering the benefits of smart meter technology to our customers today and offering them a way to better understand their usage and make more informed, cost-saving decisions.”
