Software Tells You Which Printer Is Greenest

A software company out of Portland, Oregon called GreenPrint Technologies has released a beta version of new software that can connect to all of the printers in a business or office setting and route print jobs from inefficient printer models to more earth-friendly versions.

Under the management system dubbed GreenPrint Advisor, printers are split into three categories – red, yellow, and green – ranging from the least eco-conscious to the most, giving users the option of choosing  where to send their files.

The color codes are set automatically by the software, but can be changed by the company’s IT professional to better suit the needs of the working environment. GreenPrint says their software has the potential to save businesses a good deal of money by cutting energy costs.

While how much can be saved by the new product is debatable, at least we’re past the age of fax machines, or else we’d be swimming in spam, something we noted is the cause of a surprising amount of carbon pollution in today’s society.
