Green Appliances In New York Get Rebates

Admit it. You hate that old fridge of yours. Not only is it ugly, but the inside light doesn’t work and the defrost feature broke sometime during the Clinton Administration. Same goes for that old clothes washer of yours. Hello?! Dingy whites?

It’s time improve the energy efficiency of your home and with the help of New York State’s Energy Research and Development Authority, that task just got a little bit easier on the wallet. The agency recently announced a new $3 million rebate program specifically for the purchase of high-efficiency Energy Star refrigerators and clothes washers. Start shopping now, because the rebate, which is first-come first served until the money runs out, began Sept 2.

Your ‘fridge is the biggest energy using appliance in your house, using up to 15 percent of its total energy. New Energy Star appliances can be up to 30 percent more efficient than standard models. Consumers can receive $350 for new, high-efficiency refrigerators and $250 for high efficiency clothes washers that meet the Consortium for Energy Efficiency super efficiency levels.

The new rebate program, supported by federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and approved through the U.S. Department of Energy for use by New York State, is called “Buy Green, Save Green NYS High-Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program.” Rebate applications and more information will be available on a special web site.
