Energy Storage Explored By ‘Thought Leaders’

On September 20, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will be hosting the latest installment of its “Thought Leaders Speaker Series,” a series of discussion panels with industry and research specialists. This time, the topic is, “Economic Viability of Energy Storage.”

The discussion will cover the various aspects of energy storage, from technology to logistics to economics. Specific topics will include determining the best and most realistic technological approaches that could be implemented in the near future, the benefits and drawbacks of centralized and distributed storage, and the best way to determine the cost-effectiveness of energy storage.

This discussion series was designed by the CPUC to open up dialogue between specialists on the economic, research and industry ends of the energy sector can provide information and feedback to each other and the public. Past discussion topics have included solar energy, smart grids, and how social networking can encourage energy efficiency.

The event, to be held in San Francisco, will feature panelists from the University of California at San Diego, EnerVault Corporation and the Electrical Power Resource Institute, among others, and will be available for remote webcast and video access as well. Details are here.
