Solar Stand Charges Phones, Tablets

Smartphones and tablet readers have become ubiquitous these days, but all those cool apps and graphics require more and more juice. A smart greentech solution is a solar charger, and while we’ve covered a whole lot of them here at EarthTechling, we’re liking the looks of the Solar Stand design.

This new concept from designer Wei-Chih Hsu of Taipei, Taiwan, works as a stand for a tablet PC or a smartphone that conveniently includes two robust solar panels that can be adjusted to take advantage of the angle of the sun. The solar panels charge an internal lithium ion battery while the sun is shining, allowing you to charge your mobile device while enjoying a movie or reading an e-book, off the grid.

The Solar Stand features a rough type of rubber at its base, reducing slippage and protecting the edges of the two solar panels.  It makes use of an indicator button that illuminates an LED indicator light, letting you know how much juice it’s got left, as well as a USB output for charging.

This simple and elegant design is set up to support both small-sized devices like smartphones as well larger sized tablet readers via one small solar panel and one larger one. When not in use, the device folds up securely for travel.
