Forget the MIT Clean Energy Prize. When it comes to global lift-off (and major cash prizes) for innovative sustainable energy solutions, Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Future Energy Prize is the one to win — and now, the nominations are open for the 2012 global competition.
Four main areas of criteria — impact, long-term vision, leadership, and innovation — will be applied in each of the competition’s three categories: small and medium enterprises & non-governmental organizations, large corporations and individual lifetime achievement.
Nominees in the first category will demonstrate a clear impact in sustainable and renewable energy, either through disseminating a particular solution, furthering knowledge, awareness, policy development or through technology. A prize of $1.5 million USD will go to the overall winner, as well as $1 million to the first runner-up and $500,000 million to the second runner-up.
Large corporations must exhibit business success and leadership to be nominated, as well as a clear vision for the long-term future of energy, and a coherent, sustainable strategy for its own operations and impact. The winner in this category will receive a special recognition Award.
For the individual lifetime achievement award, nominations are open to individuals from academic, political, technological, business or other fields in renewable energy/sustainability who have demonstrated leadership and commitment to raising awareness and supporting energy policy development. The winner in this category will receive $500,00o.
Nominations forms and guidelines for submission can be found online.
