O-Pod Garden Office Design Saves Carbon

First, there was the Archipod. Now there’s another cute green prefab office that wants to come home with you: the O-Pod (which comes to us via Envirogadget).

This “garden office” pod is framed with Forest Stewardship Certified timber with an eye toward strength and stability, then densely packed with recycled glass wool insulation (or Kingspan Polyurethane core/Thermafleece sheeps wool insulation, if required). The larger pods (diameters 13 and up) also  feature a wood stove that works with a radiant heat system. All O-Pods are designed to sit on concrete pads.

The exterior of the O-Pod is finished with either Western Red Cedar orThermowood, both of which are naturally resistant to moisture, decay and insect damage. High efficiency doors and windows are also part of the package.

The O-Pod, like the Archipod, comes complete with electrical hook-ups and is designed primarily to accommodate those who work from home, reducing energy costs and carbon emissions by allowing users to heat only a small space during working hours (as opposed to the whole house).  But they can also be used as art studios, guest bedrooms – or, we imagine whatever else you could dream up. (A woodland getaway? A hobbit house for the kids?)
