Brammo Motorcycles Add Six-Speed Drivetrain

Oregon-based electric motorcycle company Brammo has announced a strategic agreement with Italian engineering company S.M.R.E. to offer its electric motorcycles with a 6-speed transmission – reportedly “further improving performance and range.” The company also announced some new models with this technology.

As part of the deal, Brammo will get the exclusive internationally license on S.M.R.E.’s integrated electric transmission that reportedly “emulates the feeling and performance of a traditional internal combustion engine, with a specially developed electric motor, clutch and gear shift that enables Brammo motorcycles to accelerate hard from the line up to a high top speed.”

Late last year we interviewed a representative from Brammo about the company’s products, and have gone on to be impressed with the motorcycle’s 100 mile range and top speed over 100 miles per hour. The latest additions to the Brammo line include the Engage MX dirt bike, priced around $10,000, and the Encite MMX Pro dirt bike.

The company also announced two other Engage models – the SMR racing bike, priced just under $10,000, and the SMS street bike, priced just under $12,000. The photo above is a prototype of the Engage model, and should be a decent comparison for what the production versions will resemble.
