We’ve been reporting on a lot of green building in Ontario, Canada, recently, and the trend continues with Uptown Markham, a master-planned community in the Rouge River Valley, south of Highway 7 in Markham.
This $2-billion family-friendly residential condominium development is one of Canada’s largest, and will be built to LEED Gold standards, in line with the Ontario government’s Places to Grow initiative, which is focused on communities that support economic prosperity while achieving a high quality of life.
The first phase of Uptown Markham slated for construction is River Park, a group of two high-rise and one mid-rise condominium residences built around a European aesthetic and designed to be energy efficient and maintenance-free. According to the developer Times Group, these condos will be affordably-priced ($240,000 to $600,000), and pre-sales have already begun.
As per the master plan, the develpment will feature a party room, gourmet kitchen and bar, indoor swimming pool and sauna, fitness facility and yoga studio, business center, theatre/screening room, billiards and card room, as well as an indoor/outdoor preschool for children ages 2-6. The development lies within walking distance to 50 acres of natural parkland, bike trails and the Rouge River Valley.
