Meritage Giving Away Net Zero Home

Meritage Homes recently unveiled what is believed to be first ‘net-zero’ production home built in the US at its Verrado development in Buckeye, Arizona. As part of the festivities, the home-builder is offering a brand-new net zero home to the lucky winner as part of its online Facebook sweepstakes.

This net zero prize home isn’t actually located at the new development (it’s actually located at the Meritage Lyon’s Gate development in Gilbert, also in Arizona), but that shouldn’t deter those interested in entering the sweepstakes, which is open to anyone who “likes” the company’s Facebook page and completes a registration form. Additional entries can be made by visiting the page on a daily basis, watching the weekly videos that appear there, and/or Tweeting about the big Grand Prize with the associated hashtag.

The recently unveiled Meritage net-zero home in Buckeye–as well as the sweepstakes home in Gilbert–feature Energy Star–certified appliances, solar photovoltaic systems, high-efficiency HVAC systems, air-tight spray-foam insulation, smart landscape irrigation, lighting, thermostats and more; double low-E vinyl windows, low-flow water features; and low-VOC paints and finishes.

Even more impressive is the fact that all this–including the total lack of energy bills associated with a net zero home–comes standard to homebuyers at the Verrado development.
