Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, Facebook Edition

So 1 in every 600 Facebook users likes Porsche. That doesn’t sound so impressive – until you realize that’s more than 1,000,000 people. Still not impressed? Well, Porsche is. It’s so impressed, in fact, that the company squeezed the names of 27,836 Facebook fans who signed up for the honor onto the exterior of a 911 GT3 R Hybrid, which has now gone on display at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

Porsche said its rise to a million fans on Facebook, pulled off late last year (the company’s fan base has now grown to over 1.3 million), was accomplished faster than any other automaker.

Porsche also said it chose the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, which it debuted at the Geneva auto show last year, as its Facebook fan car “because it impressively embodies the future of motorsport – with Porsche Intelligent Performance.” And you have to admit, a 480 horsepower four-litre, six-cylinder, flat-twin engine with an electric front axle drive with two electric drive motors each pumping out 60 kW is pretty cool.

Batteries? No batteries! “Instead of batteries, the electric motors are powered by an electric flywheel accumulator which is charged during braking,” Porsche said.
