Companies Team Up On Home Energy System

If your utility is working on demand-response and smart grid programs, it may soon be working with Control4 and Silver Spring Networks, which are teaming up to offer a Home Area Network (HAN) solution interoperable with these emerging utility systems.

This HAN solution–already in use by American Electric Power Ohio’s GridSMART program–provides for an exchange of up-to-the minute consumption data between customer and utility, offering intelligent automation and control of smart devices throughout the house, both on-site and by remote. It incorporates Silver Spring’s Advanced Metering, UtilityIQ and CustomerIQ applications with Control4’s ADVANTAGE software, EC-100 Energy Controllers, and WT-100 wireless programmable thermostats, providing a comprehensive home energy management solution for a wide variety of utility companies.

Eric Dresselhuys, Executive VP and Chief Marketing Officer of Silver Spring Networks,  noted that Control4’s in-home devices help to make Smart Grid benefits tangible to consumers–an element that will no likely prove key in getting the public onboard with smart grid utility programs in years to come.

Silver Spring is not the only home energy management solutions company Control4 is working with, either. It also, for example, has the Eragy solution available as an application for end users as well.
