Whirlpool Kitchen Prototype A Green Cook’s Dream?

Thinking of redecorating your kitchen? Forget stenciling or redoing the linoleum: Whirlpool’s GreenKitchen eco-system is everything you need to make your kitchen green and efficient — including the kitchen sink.

The GreenKitchen, which was shown in prototype form at this year’s Milan Design Showcase, is a complete workspace designed to cut back on the time you spend performing most kitchen activities. Essential appliances, such as a dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, and stove are included, but it is the behind-the-scenes working of the GreenKitchen that combines eco-friendliness with maximum efficiency. “The intelligent induction cooker avoids dispersion of heat and calculates exactly how much water is needed for cooking,” explains Inhabitat, “saving up to 20% on energy consumption and 25% of the time usually required for this task.” Solar panels are used to heat water, and water recycled from cooking is filtered, stored, and reused by the GreenKitchen’s dishwasher.

Even if you’re the type who detests having too many cooks in the kitchen, the GreenKitchen resource assistant should prove delightful: located in the countertop, the assistant monitors costs, consumption, and frequently provides other handy cooking tips. Best of all, the assistant can program appliances to start tasks on their own, leaving you free to put your feet up after a long day of work and prepping dinner for the family.
