Have you California drivers been eyeing those shiny new and environmentally friendly electric vehicles? You know, the ones that have zero emissions, thereby not emitting the smoker’s-lounge-like stink of the petrol-based cars you always seem to get stuck behind in bumper-to-bumper traffic? Today’s your lucky day: starting right now, customers who purchase light-duty electric vehicles will receive a $5,000 rebate courtesy of California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project.
Funded by the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Air Resources Board (ARB) and administered statewide by the California Center for Sustainable Energy, the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project “benefits the citizens of California by providing immediate air pollution emission reductions and stimulating development and deployment of the next generation of zero-emission and plug-in hybrid light-duty and commercial vehicles,” according to the project’s website. Approximately $4.1 million was allocated for the program.
A cool five grand goes a long way toward making an electric vehicle purchase even more appealing, but according to Green Autoblog, some vehicles are worth rebates of up to $20,000. New cars, trucks, commercial medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, neighborhood electric vehicles, and motorcycles can all qualify for the program.
