THINK Thinks Ultra Fast-Charge Stations Need To Come Fast

Electric vehicles are booming and with them, the race to establish ultra-fast charging stations. THINK announced that it will work with AeroVironment, Inc. (AV), a leading developer of EV charging infrastructure, to pursue demonstration and commercial projects using AV’s level III fast-charge system and the THINK City electric vehicle. Together, they’ll be debuting charging stations that take the THINK City car from 0% to 80% charged in just 15 minutes.

These projects will be designed to jump-start the development of fast-charge infrastructure in the US, which, according to THINK, are key to the development of commercial EV fleets.  “Our experience with more than 1,500 vehicles in use in Europe is that customers using the vehicle for daily commutes and trips around town quickly become comfortable with THINK City’s range of more than 100 miles,” said THINK CEO Richard Canny, in a statement. He goes on to note that while individuals have no problem plugging in overnight, commercial fleets will depend on fast-charge stations in order to be viable.

In addition to commercial EV fleets, THINK also anticipates that commercial enterprises such as shopping malls, convenience stores and parking garages will see see the value in offering fast-charging services for their customers as a way to grow their business and demonstrate their commitment to green.
