Speaker Concept Powered By Good Old Fashioned Water

Honey, did you forget to water the speakers? While this is a question we’re not likely to have heard before, in the future, it may not sound so far-fetched, thanks to a new concept design by Stefanie Koehler called the Wave Tower.

This funky-looking tower speaker, designed for use with the iPod, features a fuel cell that runs on water. According to Ecofriend, adding water to the device (presumably while you care for your houseplants) causes a small chemical reaction that occurs within the fuel cell housed by the speaker that provides a stable power current at very little cost. The Wave Tower also features a USB or wireless connection.

This fascinating concept was apparently created for speaker manufacturer Altec Lansing’s Sound Innovation design competition, which called for “speaker designs that enhance and unleash your digital music lifestyle,” while asking designers to consider future lifestyle trends and usability.
