So! Darned! Cute! And functional! All right, enough with the gushing. The Archipod, according to Green Muze, is a modular “garden office” that’s equal parts hobbit-house and futuristic eyeball-esque sort of pod, designed for the simple purpose of giving you a home office in your backyard–without having to go through planning and zoning.
The prefab Archipod measures about 9.5 feet in diameter at its widest point and about 8 feet to top of the dome, which is fitted with a skylight. It’s composed of a curved plywood structural box with encapsulated fiberglass insulation, plasterboard finish (internally, on high performance foil insulation) and a vapor barrier that, according to its maker, exceeds current building regulations. It’s shingled in Western Red Cedar and comes outfitted with a marmoleum desk, lights, telephone and internet jacks and even a smoke alarm. The Archipod is designed to rest on a concrete pad or steel posts, depending on ground conditions.
And what, you may be wondering, is the eco-factor of the Archipod? Glad you asked. The Archipod comes equipped with its own little electrical heater–so when you work during the day, you won’t have to heat your whole house to stay warm.
