Luxury electric car company Tesla Motors, besides bringing to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) the latest prototype of its Model S sedan, is also showing off a special numbered all-electric Roadster Sport production vehicle. Tesla Roadster Sport 1,000 is off the line and ready for purchase for a grouping of special causes.
Tesla said this particular Roadster Sport, “bears the unique Vehicle Identification No. 1,000,” and will be on display at NAIAS through the end of the show. This “Millennial White” special edition is pricing around $175,000 and comes with “a unique interior and carbon fiber accents.” The company plans to donate the proceeds from its sale to several Detroit-area charities, including Forgotten Harvest, the Children’s Center and the Sierra Club.
Tesla feels it has come a long way in the last year, saying it announced at the Detroit auto show just last year that it had delivered only about 150 Roadsters. It began vehicle development in 2004, delivering Roadsters to customers in 43 states and 19 countries.
