Everywhere we look, it seems, there’s someone new who wants to help us manage energy at home. With big players like Apple and Google in the running–as well as upstarts like Onzo, with this spanky new Home Energy Kit–who will emerge the victor? Answer: all of us.
The Onzo system works by allowing you to clip a sensor to one of the cables from your electricity meter. This sensor then sends utility information to a compact LED display, designed for easy mounting on a wall or fridge. Green Diary reports that the display tracks the watts used in real time and crunches the numbers for accurate energy usage data and stores it for up to 10 years.
Onzo’s Home Energy Kit also comes equipped with a USB cord, allowing transfer of said information to your home computer–where with the help of “intelligent web-based services” you’ll be able to figure out how to use less energy and save money, presumably. According to the company, the Onzo Smart Energy Kit is about to go into production and should be available by mid-year.
