Talk about walking lightly on the earth! Igor Davydov’s Eco-building is designed to provide lots of vertical space–whether commercial or residential–while standing on a foundation that measures just 10 square feet in diameter.
While the designer doesn’t provide a whole lot of information about the thinking behind this intriguing concept design, it’s not hard to see how preserving as much greenspace as possible–for cultivation, recreation, smog control, etc. –makes a whole lot of sense. Clearly, there’s only so much land-mass to sustain us, and making the most of what we’ve got left while still finding ways to accommodate the exploding human population makes good long-term sense.
According to I Green Spot, the design makes use of energy saving technologies such as wind and electric generators, as well as solar panels and a glass absorber (as a sound buffer? A solar collector? We’re not sure.) The only drawback being, the Eco-building was designed primarily for warm climates–and is probably not suitable for those who like to throw stones, as the saying goes.
