NEC Unveils Eco-Friendly LCD175M Desktop Monitor

Part of the growing trend towards more eco-friendly desktop monitors, NEC Display Solutions has announced an eco-friendly addition to their MultiSync series.  According to NEC, the energy-efficient 17-inch LCD175M monitor, intended for use in business and educational environments, uses 42% less energy than its predecessors.

The energy-efficient features of the LCD175M include a two-step “ECO Mode” for power savings, a carbon footprint meter for tracking carbon savings associated with monitor use; the product makes use of recycled plastics in its chassis and contains 50% less mercury than the its predecessors in the MultiSync line. The monitor has earned the EPEAT Gold standard in the U.S. and Canada, as well as the Energy Star 5.0 rating.

Other features of the NEC LCD175M include a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 5 ms response time, height-adjust and tilt capabilities, and space-saving, down-firing multimedia speakers with headphone jack.  The monitor is slated to retail for $179 starting in November.
